Studio d'architettura civile

Ferdinando Ruggieri, Studio d'architettura civile sopra gli ornamenti di porte e finestre colle misure, piante, modini, e profili, tratte da alcune fabbriche insigni di Firenze ... , Firenze, 1722-1728.

Ferdinando Ruggieri (1691-1741), a Florentine architect at the court of the Medici, published in 1722 the Studio di architettura civile (a study on civil architecture), a three-volume collection illustrating the most acclaimed architectural models of the city, exemplifying them through the analysis of architectural details.

This is the first collection of engravings of the most important architectural works in Florence with their details and includes, among others, works by Buontalenti, Ammannati, Giambologna, Vasari and Michelangelo.

Tartini and Franchi were in charge of the Stamperia Granducale (printery) since 1716, and they gave to it great impetus, publishing works well endowed with large format illustrations. Ruggieri's Studio was one of their first editorial initiatives, which responded to a widespread interest in local history works accompanied by iconography.
