Promulgated in 1723 for the Savoy states by Victor Amadeus II, who became king in 1713. In 1729, a second, increased edition, follows, also by Victor Amadeus II, in which the original five books are brought to six. The third edition comes after the initiative of Charles Emmanuel III in 1770. In application of the law of Emanuele Filiberto (1561), the Latin was replaced by a bilingual text: the Italian for the regions on the southern side of the Alps, French for those beyond the Alps.
