The issue of the hydraulic arrangement relating to the last part of the River Reno, which had for centuries fuelled a dispute between Ferrara and Bologna about the consequent economic and environmental damages, is dealt with in 1765 by Pope Clement XIII, who establishes a committee to re-examine the problem from the beginning and propose an operational solution. The task is entrusted to three rank technicians led by the Jesuit Giovanni Antonio Lecchi (1702-1762), who, in 1767, at the conclusion of the works that would foresee the canalisation of part of the river, devises this report, which is then readily sent to the presses.
