Statuta Perusie, Perugia, 1523-28
Collection of the four books making up the Perugia Statutes, published by Girolamo di Francesco Cartolari in a particularly convulsive political period for the city and for this reason probably released at different times and with different dedicatees.
The edition is extremely well curated both from the point of view of text (the text was allegedly reviewed by a committee of lawyers) and of decoration: some of the title pages, richly decorated, feature the emblem of the city of Perugia, others an icon depicting a rampant griffin between two Latin crosses resting on the cusp with the initial "F." on a scroll: Perusia Augusta. The text is framed by remarkable woodcut frames.
