The title of this work by Benedetto Bordon (1450 c. - 1530), a Paduan artist and geographer, changed into "Isolario" (index of islands) in the subsequent editions, giving rise to a new literary-geographic genre, that of the Isolari. In fact, this text presents all the known islands, even those of the New World, a few years after Columbus's discovery.
The description of the islands is combined for the first time with their cartographic representation and the rich array of tables, indexes and maps reveal the clear intention of the author to arrive at a real systematization of the genre.
