Codex Herbarium (XV century)
The manuscript 106 is presumably a codex herbarium originated in northern Italy and dating back to a period between the end of the 14th and the beginning of the 15th century. Passed through the hands of doctors and pharmacists judging by the notes found on the codex, it reproduces specimens of plants used for medicinal purposes. Apparently it composed of two different parts associated and harmonized at a later stage. On c. 1r the rectangular stamp of Physics and Natural History Museum is visible, while on the front counterguard the ex-libris, "Ex Nicolai Gualtieri Museum" is found, thus indicating the previous owner, Niccolò Gualtieri, botanist, zoologist and physician of the Grand Duke Cosimo III de' Medici.
