Des semis

Henri Louis Duhamel du Monceau, Des semis et plantations des arbres, et de leur culture, Parigi, 1760

Henri Louis Duhamel du Monceau (1700-1782), a man of science in the century of the Enlightment, was a naturalist, chemist, agronomist, sailor and naval engineer.

He conceived and produced a great work: Traité complet des bois et des forêts, divided into five treatises, each dealing with specific aspects of the discipline and which formed the foundations of a whole new science.

In 1760, Des semis et plantation des arbres came out, divided into six books. The work is a study on the soil, the different ways of multiplying the trees, growing young trees and planting them, how to grow trees in the greenhouse, how to set up large forests, and, finally, techniques for woods conservation and reconstitution following degradation.
