Drawings depicting a "risina" in Pieve di Cadore, drawn and hand painted by Apollonio Ciotti around 1870. The word "Risina" refers to a canal used for downstream timber transport.
The drawings had an educational purpose: the teaching of the Science and Art of Forestry at the Vallombrosa Forestry Institute. They were found during the reorganisation of the ancient Vallombrosa library.
The Vallombrosa study course was devoted to the higher education of the State technical forest service officers and was structured in a cycle of theoretical lectures integrated with practical exercises that took place in the forest managed by the Institute and used as a teaching laboratory.
