Il Porto Sepolto of 1916 collects the thirty-three poems written in December 1915 by Ungaretti, engaged at the time on the Karst in the 19th Infantry of the Brescia Brigade. The poems were published on 16 December of the following year in Udine and edited by Ettore Serra, a fellow soldier of his. The volume had a reduced circulation of only eighty numbered copies. The specimen with autograph dedication to Aldo Palazzeschi is the fifty-eighth copy of the print run and comes from the Aldo Palazzeschi Collection.
